Brandy's Weight Loss Story

Jun 6, 2019
Brandy, weightloss patient, Florida Medical Center

After two pregnancies, Brandy gained extra weight that she just couldn’t lose. “I tried diets and exercise on my own, and I always failed,” she said. “When I stepped on the scale and I was 100 pounds overweight, I knew I needed help. I was pre-diabetic, had sleep apnea, and was waking up at night choking.”

And the symptoms weren’t going away. But electing to have surgery is a giant step for many, one made easier for Brandy by family experience.

Family referral

Brandy had an uncle who enjoyed success with weight loss surgery, and he recommended the procedure. But Brandy still wanted to look into it on her own, so she went to one of Florida Medical Center’s free weight loss surgery seminars to learn more.

“After listening to the surgeon explain my options and the different types of surgeries, I knew The Florida Medical Center Surgical Weight Loss Center was the place for me,” Brandy said. “If I had a question, they had an answer. My insurance even paid for the surgery. It changed my life.”

Successful surgery, and life after obesity

Brandy’s surgery was a success, and it’s led to long-term success.

Even after 10 years, Brandy has still kept the weight off. She made a total lifestyle change and even started running marathons. “My husband and I run together every week,” she said. “I found the new me, and I love who I am.”
